We needed to get over jetlag so no going to sleep when we arrived we went off to visit Quito Town centre.
Yes our suitcases made it to Quito a few marks and a broken handle but relieved that they both arrived. Me and dad met our guide Henry and Angel at the airport and headed to the swisshotel. It was very comfortable the weather about 16 degrees Celsius a little cloudy but nice.
Flying into Quito was amazing the city lies in a valley surrounded by non-active volcanoes.
We arrived at the Swisshotel which was really nice, it had a small outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a spa and a gym. On arrival they offered us a lovely sandwich and a drink made from the juice of the tree tomato, which tasted of tomatoes with a citrus after taste really nice.
After having lunch at the hotel we headed into Quito main city via taxi, it is an amazing city with really steep cobbled streets and large squares where government buildings or churchs from the 1600’s lie.
The best church was la Compania de jesus (the Church of the company of Jesus) which has over 7 tonnes of gold leaf on the Walls and took 160 years to build. Unfortunately you are not aloud to take photos inside the church but it was certainly magnificiant.
The local people seem to be selling everything they can – lottery tickets, coconuts, clothes, other fruit and vegetables I loved watching the local people going about their daily business, this old ladies selling lottery tickets by side of the road, ladies with puppets – I have no idea if she was selling anything or not and another lady breast feeding whilst selling some fruit.
Eventually I fell asleep in the hotel room after being awake for 41 hours, we had already arranged to meet Henry and Angel for a tour the next day.
