Umm, where do I start… words can only just explain how amazing this morning was and this was only day 2 of our trip !!

After a lovely breakfast of omelette with cheese and ham, a plate of water melon and fresh pineapple at 7am, we were ready to start walking by 7.30am.  I had been awake since 2.30am anyway due to a different bed, the movement of the sea and the engine noise of the boat.

We started walking on the beach and very quickly came across some sea-lions and a marine iguana.

The Galapagos islands is the only place in the world where Marine iguanas live – living on land but feeding in and out of the sea, they are excellent swimmers

As we headed in land we had to be careful not to tread on the lava lizards, the females being very colourful and the males being much paler.

As we walked along we saw lots of different birds mainly Darwin finches then a beautiful flycatcher landed on Martins (our guides) stick he was carrying.  For other groups they had landed on some of the peoples heads and hands.

We also say some Anis which are large black birds which were introduced from Ecuador as they ate cow ticks of course when they came to the Galapagos Islands they had a lot of more interesting things to eat like baby birds and eggs, they are now trying to eradicate these birds before they destroy the local birds.

Martin then spoke to us about the difference between sea lions and fur seals, this was the only place we would see fur seals in the Galapagos islands and that we would have to be quiet as they were very shy creatures – we did not know Martin up until this point but he is very good at joking.

There were also a lot of marine iguanas around so much so people had to say watch where you step as they were just lying on the path oblivious to us – it was absolutely amazing ! Then we turned the corner and there were hundreds of marine iguanas on the rock.
