In the afternoon we went snorkelling – I thought that it could not be better than the day before but I was very wrong !!

As soon as we got into the water 3 penguins swam with us for a little while before darting off very quickly, we then found a marine iguana feeding on the algae about 4 feet down, it was amazing seeing a creature that you would expect to be on land being so graceful and happy feeding underwater.

The water was very clear, as we continued to snorkel we saw what looked like a blanket of sea weed, this can be seen in the photo shown below the dark area are the fish and the light area the sand –  it was not weed but thousands of stripped salemas about 10 to 12 feet down. Martin our guide went down underneath the carpet of fish and disappeared then a huge Galapagos shark came up straight through the middle followed by Martin. It was absolutely amazing snorkelling down so you were in the middle of them, there were a few sharks around and some sea lions trying to pick off the weaker fish. It must be the first time someone has shouted shark and swam towards them rather than away.
