Bartolome island was famously used for the back drop for part of the film Master and Commander starring Russell Crowe. For us it was famous for it’s rain.

As the afternoon drew on the rain got worse. Most of the people did not want to go walking in the rain but I was determined not to miss a thing whilst in the galapagos islands. 4 of us and the guide Christina decided to walk up the islands 372 wooden steps up to the top. Firstly we had to get over the first obstacle 2 very stubborn sea lions that decided they were going to lie on the jetti and were not going anywhere in a hurry, they start barking at Christina and one of the panga workers and got quite aggressive.

The scenery reminded me of what it would look like on the Mars it was very red the rock with lots of parasite volcanoes dotted around from the top of the main volcano a few plants could service this teraine.

It was a lot easier walking on the way back down but when we got back to the jetty the sea lions had returned and were not going to let us get back on the panga.

After getting soaked we had a short break and had dinner with plenty of great wine. Where we had moored up was famous for sharks and tonight was no exception there were about 12 two metre Galapagos sharks chasing flying fish, the fish were so fast and kept jumping out of the water to escape the sharks and they really do look like they fly – they can stay out of the water for quite a long time

Then a sea lion would go through them all and nick the fish, we must have watched them for at least a couple of hours.
