We had a great day planned – however things don’t always go to plan as we found out
Things started well had a lovely breakfast of cheese and onion omelette with beef stew and watermelon for after. Took a couple of small croissants for a snack later.

Katie’s friend the tuk tuk driver picked us up at 8am as planned and we set off for Phnom Kbal Spean to see the river carvings . It was a long trip we knew this 60 km from our hotel.
The petrol stations here are great I say petrol loosely as at the beginning of the day it is mainly petrol but by lunchtime the amount of petrol to water concentration changes as they don’t want to run out.

We went through some lovely villages and saw roadside markets that tourists don’t visit just locals.

About 20km down the road the tuk tuk motorbike started making funny noises and the engine stopped. We went for a walk and found a local market while our driver got the bike into the garage.  The people were so friendly and they gave us a taste of the fudge they were making, the young children were playing, laughing and waving at us.

We then realised that the bike was going to take about an hour to fix so Katie said we could just hitch hike to the local temple which was 9km away – we were planning to visit it on the way back anyway.

After about 5 minutes we managed to flag down a lovely local who went out of his way to help us.

All the locals thought it was hilarious 2 white tourists travelling in the back of a cart – the kids waved and the adults laughed it was great fun and we got to Baneay Srei temple for about 10am.  We certainly saw Cambodia from a different point of view.
