We were thinking of heading off to the temples tomorrow but if we booked the 3 day pass after 5.45pm we got to see the sunset in the temple park, I was so excited about seeing them that we headed off by tuk tuk to Ankor Wat the largest and most magnificent of them all.

Where do I begin ??

Although there were lots of tourists around, the temple was so magical.  Katie knew the different entrances to use depending on your status in society. So we went in the lowest level and paid our respects as opposed to 90% of the other tourists used the kings entrance, we made a small donation to the monks, lit 5 joss sticks and said a prayer.

The carvings at the temple were so beautiful most of them depicting the beautiful women in the Kings life, it is hard to believe that most have survived over 900 years.

You can really get a sense of what it must have been like to live there 900 years ago.

Unfortunately over the years there has been a lot of looting and people destroying some of the statues mostly the statues of the animals guarding the steps upto Angkor Wat, it is so sad to see.

We saw lots of monks all dressed in their official robes, children and adults.

Finally we watched the sun set over Angkor Wats gatehouse.  Once all the crouds were gone and the only people left were the monks the real sense of the temple came to life.

We ended the evening exhausted back at the hotel restaurant, I was hungry so had spaghetti bologna use to be safe but Katie had an amazing fish curry which was not very spicy so I may try that tomorrow night.  However I did try some of the local beer called Angkor which seemed alcohol free as was so nice, light and refreshing it was however 5% alcohol which I knew about by the end of the meal.
