Our driver arrived 15 minutes after we had eaten our fruit with water coming out of his engine area but he assured us the bike was fine.
So 2 hours later than planned we headed to Kbal Spean and the river of 1000 lingas.
We had not really wanted to be jungle trekking at 12 noon due to the intense heat but that’s life. It was 1.5km walk through the jungle, climbing rocks along a marked path to the river carvings.
When we got to the area of the lingas I was slightly disappointed as due to the dry season there was no water in the river bed but we got to view the beautiful river carvings. Some of these carvings those of Vishnu and Shiva were created in the 11th century. Some of them date back earlier to the ninth century and were said to be commissioned by the King to purify the water coming down the mountain before it reached the temples of the gods.
There were a few pools of water around some of the carvings which meant once we stopped walking we were good for the mosquitos so we quickly left and headed back down the hill
We were very hot and covered in red dust ready to go back to the hotel by the time we got back to the carpark.
Back at the hotel I had a lovely swim to cool off then went down to dinner – I had Khmer dish of amok chicken which was lovely and ate most of this pudding – we both agreed we deserved it after today’s activities !!
We then headed to the spa area for our complimentary 1 hour body massages which were amazing – not had a really relaxing massage in a long time. Early to bed as I am leaving the hotel at 7am tomorrow on my own while Katie does some work.
