Banteay Srei translates as ‘citadel of women’ and was created in around 950 AD by the Brahmin tutor to King Rajendravarman. The temple was not discovered until 1914 due to its distance from Angkor Wat and was completely overgrown by the jungle and most of the main temple buried under mounds of dirt. It is certainly not the largest temple but is considered by some to be the highest achievement of art from the Angkor period.
It was certainly the most beautiful temple I have seen in Cambodia and the intricate details were breath taking.
After the temple we followed a sign to the water meadows and a small boat trip on the river but due to it being dry season it was not running but it was still beautiful looking over the river.
We saw lots of termite mounds everywhere which was great to see one of them was taller than Katie
We then headed back to look for our tuk tuk driver hoping his bike was fixed, in the meantime we had a very cold fresh coconut to drink, some fresh mango and pineapple
